LUCKNOW: Holding the members of Tablighi Jamaat responsible for the spread of COVID-19, Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath said being infected with a virus is not a crime, but concealing it definitely is.
The prime minister said measures will be taken against them for the “crime”.
Speaking on a news channel program on Saturday, Adityanath said: “The role of Tablighi Jamaat was more damnable. Having an illness is not a crime but hiding an illness that is infectious is definitely a crime. And this crime has been made by those associated with the Tablighi Jamaat. ”
“In Uttar Pradesh and other places where the spread of the coronavirus has been seen, Tablighi Jamaat is behind it. If they had not hidden the disease and acted as its carriers, then perhaps we would have controlled the coronavirus outbreak to a great extent,” the said.
A Tablighi Jamaat congregation held in March in the Nizamuddin area of Delhi contributed significantly to doubling cases of coronavirus in India.
