Covid-19: active cases continue to grow exponentially; Punjab Reports 12-fold Increase in Past Two Months | India News


NEW DELHI: The number of active cases grew exponentially in states categorized as “serious concern” by the Ministry of Health. Active cases have reported the largest increase in Punjab, where they have increased twelvefold since February 3. In Delhi, during the same period, active cases have increased tenfold.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, more than 6.3 million people have received the first injection of the dose, while almost 1 million people have been fully vaccinated. In the last 24 hours, 89,129 cases were reported, the highest since September 26.
Cases continued to rise across the country. More than 81% of the new cases reported in the last 24 hours came from eight states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

Five states, namely Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab accumulate 77.3% of the total active cases in the country. Maharashtra alone accounts for almost 60% (59.36%) of the country’s total active cases.

In addition, 50% of the total active cases are in ten districts.

In the last 24 hours, 714 deaths were reported. Six states account for 85.85% of new deaths. Maharashtra saw the most casualties (481). Punjab follows with 57 deaths a day.

Thirteen states / UT have not reported any deaths from COVID19 in the past 24 hours. These are Odisha, Assam, Ladakh (UT), D&D & D&N, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, A&N Islands, and Arunachal Pradesh.
