India reported 96,424 new cases of the coronavirus disease on Friday, a world record, taking the cumulative count beyond 5.21 million. With a steady increase in Covid-19 cases at a record rate, India is the second most affected country globally and is expected to surpass the United States, where the total of positive cases exceeds 6.67 million, in the next weeks. .
With restrictions easing and lockdowns easing, several states in India have reported an increase in cases of the coronavirus disease. According to the Union Health Ministry, five states are pushing the nation’s cumulative count and account for 60 percent of cases.
In the past 24 hours, 18 states have reported an increase in active cases, demonstrating the widespread outbreak of the virus in various parts of the country. Together, the 18 states have reported 7,778 active cases in the last 24 hours on Friday.

Bihar
Bihar has reported 197 active cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total active cases in the state to 13,156. The state also reported seven deaths on Friday due to Covid-19.
Delhi
The national capital reported 4,432 new coronavirus cases and 38 new victims on Thursday. The increase in cases pushed the number of cases to more than 2.34 lakh on Thursday. Delhi has 31,721 active cases, an increase of 807 from the previous day’s count.

Goa has 5,612 active cases, according to data released by the health ministry. The increase in active cases has been 237 in the territory of the Union in the last 24 hours that registered 644 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the accumulated count to 26,783.
Jammu and Kashmir
With a record of active cases at 20,239, an increase of 736 in the last day, Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the Union territories in the country that is witnessing an increase in cases as it recorded more than 1,000 cases for the fifteenth consecutive day. With 1,467 new virus cases and 19 deaths in the past 24 hours, Jammu and Kashmir’s cumulative count reached 59,711.
Karnataka
Karnataka is one of the most affected states in the country, registering one of the highest active cases with more than 100,000 infections. In the last 24 hours, Karnataka has seen 2,005 new active cases. The southern state reported 9,366 new Covid-19 infections and 93 related deaths on Thursday, bringing the infection count to 4,94,356 and the death toll to 7,629.
Kerala
The southern state has 34,380 active cases in the country and has seen a 1,605 jump in active cases in the last 24 hours.
Ladakh
Active cases in the Union territory increased to 972, an increase of 19 in the last 24 hours. Ladakh has not registered deaths in the last day.
Maharashtra
The hardest hit state in India due to the coronavirus outbreak, Maharashtra’s active cases increased by 4,629 in the past 24 hours. The state saw 24,619 new cases, bringing the state count to more than 1.14 million. The death toll reached 31,351 in Maharashtra after 398 new victims were registered on Thursday.
Manipur
Manipur recorded 90 active cases in the last 24 hours, bringing accumulated active cases to 1,841 on Friday.
Meghalaya
Manipur saw 81 active cases in the past 24 hours, bringing cumulative active cases to 1,983 on Friday.
Mizoram
Manipur reported 18 new active cases in the last 24 hours, bringing cumulative active cases to 585 on Friday.
Odisha
Odisha saw an increase of 621 active cases on Friday, according to the health ministry. The total number of active cases in the state is 33,026.
Punjab
The northern state registered an increase of 546 active cases in the last 24 hours of Friday. Punjab has 21,568 active cases, data from the Health Ministry showed.
Rajasthan
Rajasthan has 17,495 active cases, an increase of 446 in the last 24 hours. The state registered 1,793 new cases Thursday, bringing the total positive cases to 1,09,473.
Telangana
Telangana remains one of the hardest-hit states in the country, seeing an increase of 230 active cases on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 30,673.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand has seen an increase in active cases by 646, recording the total of active cases in the state at the 11,714 mark.
Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has 68,235 active cases, according to data released by the Health Ministry on Friday. Active cases increased by 1,233 in the last 24 hours.
west bengal
West Bengal reported 60 more deaths from Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 4,183, according to a bulletin issued by the state health department. Active cases increased by 189, bringing the cumulative number of active cases to 24,336.
