Coronavirus | United States Announces Relaxations For H-1B Visa Holders, Green Card Applicants

In great relief to professionals and immigrants from countries like India, the United States government has granted a 60-day grace period to H-1B visa holders and Green Card applicants, who have been sent notifications for the submission of various documents, taking into account the new massive outbreak of coronavirus in America.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to hire foreign workers in specialized occupations that require theoretical or technical experience. Businesses depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

A Green Card, officially known as a Permanent Residence Card, is a document issued to immigrants to the US. USA As evidence that the bearer has been granted the privilege of permanently residing.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) said Friday that the 60-day grace period to respond to their requests will include requests for evidence; continuations to request evidence (N-14); notices of intention to deny; notices of intention to revoke; notices of intention to terminate and notices of intention to terminate regional investment centers; and the filing date requirements for Form I-290B, Notice of Appeal or Motion.

“USCIS will consider a response to prior requests and notices received within 60 calendar days after the expiration date of the response set forth in the request or notice before taking action,” it said in a statement.

USCIS can issue a maximum of 65,000 H-1B work visas each year to highly skilled foreign workers. You can issue an additional 20,000 H-1B visas for those highly qualified foreign workers who have earned master’s degrees or higher degrees from a U.S. educational institution.

According to the current law, EE. USA You can issue a maximum of 1,40,000 employment-based green cards each year with a country limit of 7%.

Consequently, in fiscal year 2019, Indian citizens received 9,008 category 1 (EB1), 2,908 category 2 (EB2) and 5,083 category 3 green cards (EB3). EB1-3 are different categories of employment-based green cards.

“USCIS is taking various measures to protect our workforce and our community and to minimize the immigration consequences for those seeking immigration benefits during this time,” the statement said.

The relaxations came at the sight of the coronavirus pandemic, which first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan last December.

The United States is the most affected country with more than 65,000 deaths and more than 1,069,400 infections.
