Washington: Seeking a response from China on the origins of the deadly coronavirus, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that the United States needs to know the details of patient zero.

“We know this originated in Wuhan, China. That was challenged by the Chinese on the front. This administration was very clear that we were not going to accept that disinformation, rejected. I think everyone knows that this started and originated there. in Wuhan, “he said.
“Where exactly it came from is important. We want to know the answers to that. There is evidence that it came from somewhere close to the lab, but that could be wrong. We need to get the answer to that. It matters because we need to know where the patient came from. zero, “he said.
The United States needs it for all the epidemiological work that must be done to protect Americans today and tomorrow, he said.
In recent days, United States President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo have claimed that the deadly virus originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where the outbreak was detected by first time last December.
Since it emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December, the coronavirus is confirmed to have infected 1.2 million Americans, killing more than 73,000.
Pompeo said the United States has no confidence in the data coming from China regarding the coronavirus. “There is no reason to believe that the information is coming out of China. As for how much there is, we are trying to find that, but we are looking at what China has done,” he said.
“There is no reason to believe that the reported cases that are coming out of China or the death toll that they have remotely provided reflect what actually happened and continues to happen there,” he said.
The United States, he said, is working with partners in many countries around the world, sharing information, sharing data, trying to obtain both therapeutic products and a vaccine.

Pompeo alleged that the WHO did not do well. “The WHO failed in its mission to provide information to the world in a timely manner about the risk emanating from China,” he said.
“They knew it; they saw it. There was pressure from the Chinese government not to declare this a pandemic, and it became a political institution rather than a medical and scientific institution that it was designed for,” Pompeo said, adding that the United States States need an institution that offers good results for the American people.
The United States has suspended more than $ 400 million for the WHO pending an investigation.
