“Many life-saving and essential medical equipment, health-related IT systems and machines, vehicles, have been found to be in poor condition due to the closure of electronics and hardware stores.

“Therefore, there was an urgent need to keep such stores open to a certain extent,” said the amended BMC order signed by Pardeshi.

Pardeshi ordered all assistant commissioners of the halls to allow a separate hardware and electronics store on each path to remain open during the shutdown.

According to BMC officials, in light of the order, some electronics and hardware stores could open as of Thursday.

On Tuesday night, Pardeshi, in an order, had directed the closure of all non-essential services, including liquor stores, in the city.
