India reported on Wednesday 50 new deaths from COVID-19 and the recovery of 3,959 patients, bringing the recovery rate to 19.36% from the previous 17%.
The Union Health Ministry said 20,971 people have been confirmed positive so far, while the number of deaths was 652. As of Tuesday, 1,383 new cases have been reported.
However, State reports put the number of victims at 683 and the total number of positive cases at 21,330, of which 16,493 are active. Maharashtra has the highest number of cases (5,649), followed by Gujarat (2,407) and Delhi (2,248).
The ministry said the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) had promised to collect data from states to assess the scope and extent of usefulness of rapid antibody testing under field conditions.

Health worker safety
The ministry said it had ordered the Secretaries General of State and UT administrations to guarantee the safety of health workers. “Their skill and service among all professionals place them in a unique position to save people in modern times. States and UTs have been advised to take various measures, including training in human resources and skills development, medical security, timely payments, psychological support, training of front-line workers and life insurance coverage, ”he affirmed.
