Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday an additional 19 days of closure while praising efforts made to restrict the spread of the coronavirus. He said there would be strict enforcement of the blockade until April 20, after which there could be relaxation in specific areas after an assessment of the situation. After April 20, there will be graduated relaxations in areas based on the epidemiological assessment: outbreak incidence and intensity, PM Modi said, adding that the restrictions could be re-imposed later if new cases of COVID-19 were found in these areas. .
In its daily press, the Ministry of Health said that 1,211 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in the last 24 hours, with a total of more than 10,000 cases. The death toll in the country has also crossed 350. Meanwhile, the railways and airlines also extended the suspension of services until May 3.
Activists Anand Teltumbde and Gautam Navlakha surrendered to authorities today in connection with the Elgaar Parishad case.
