CHENNAI J Radhakrishnanwho is the special officer for COVID-19 Operations in Chennai said Sunday that the number of positive cases in the city is expected to increase in the next five to six days, but that need not be a cause for concern.
“Since the number of cases in Chennai has been high, it must be contextualized with the population and the evidence rate in the city. Currently, the number of tests performed in Chennai is the highest in the country, ”he said.
Radhakrishnan said that people should not worry about the increasing number of cases. “For the past 10 days, we have been conducting specific tests. We have tracked contacts and are conducting tests at the rate of 3,500 people per day, “he added.
Claiming that the virus is an invisible enemy, the official encouraged people to support the authorities by following social distancing and asked them to wear masks. “We can reach a stage in the near future, where if people do not follow social distancing and if they do not wear masks, they could be fined. We advise people not to leave their homes without wearing masks, “he said.
