Coronavirus Cases in India: India’s Daily Cases Now Third Highest in the World | India News

NEW DELHI: For the fourth day in a row, more than 40,000 new cases were reported in the country and the steady increase in cases has once again led India to become the third most affected country in the world in terms of daily cases.
Data compiled by WHO shows that once again the trio of Brazil, the United States and India lead the world in daily cases. WHO data shows that on March 22, Brazil had reported 79,069 new cases, the highest in the world, followed by the United States with 60,228 and India with 46,951. Analysis of daily case data for the past few days shows that India reached third place on March 19 and has held that position ever since.
India reported 40,622 new cases on Monday, and data from Assam has yet to come in until late at night. An analysis of state data shows that the increase in cases is no longer limited to a few states. Despite it being Monday, when cases drop each week, at least nine states reported their highest case count since January or earlier.
Gujarat, for example, reported 1,640 cases on Monday, the highest in the state. Similarly, the highest cases this year were recorded on Monday for Chhattisgarh (1,525), MP (1,348), Delhi (888) and Himachal (200). Tamil Nadu also reported 1,385 cases on Monday, the highest since December 14. Rajasthan reported 602 cases, the highest since January 1. Similarly, UP and Odisha also reported the highest cases since January 10 and January 24, respectively.
So many spikes at the state level suggest a resurgence of cases across India is highly likely.
Deaths were also increasing, with the daily casualty toll surpassing the 200 mark on Sunday.
