With 83,809 new infections reported in the past 24 hours, India’s coronavirus count has crossed the 49 lakh mark. The pandemic claimed 1,054 lives in the past 24 hours, bringing India’s total death toll to more than 80,000. The country now has 9.90 lakh of active cases and a total of 38.59 lakh of patients in the country have recovered from COVID-19. Maharashtra remains the state most affected by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Worldwide, nearly 3 million people have been infected by Sars-CoV-2, and more than 9.23 million people have lost their lives to the pandemic since it broke out in China late last year.

Europe is expected to see an increase in the daily number of deaths from Covid-19 in October and November after a sharp increase in recent weeks.
