Coronavirus cases in India exceed 1 crore-Mark, 1.45 lakh deaths

India has seen a “sharp increase in recoveries,” the government said this morning.

New Delhi:

India has become the second country after the United States to cross 1 crore of coronavirus cases. More than 95.5 lakh of patients have recovered since the first case was reported in Kerala on January 30, and more than 1.45 lakh of patients have died while battling the highly contagious disease.

The country has seen “a sharp increase” in recoveries, from 50,000 in May to more than 95 lakh in December, the government said this morning. “Recoveries are more than 30 times higher than active cases (currently only 3.14% of all cases),” he said.

This morning, the Union Ministry of Health tweeted: “Central Government calibrated strategies through a ‘Whole Government’ approach have clearly focused on a high RECOVERY rate and a sustained low mortality rate ( sic)”.

“This has resulted in a very high recovery rate of more than 95%, one of the highest globally. This is driven by 34 states and UT reporting a recovery rate of over 90%,” he said in another tweet. .

It took India 325 days to cross the 1 crore cases. In the past 24 hours, 25,152 new infections brought India’s Covid count to 1,00,04,599, government data showed this morning. 347 Covid-related deaths were recorded, bringing the count to 1,45,136.
