As India continues to work against the COVID-19 coronavirus on a war footing, the number of positive cases on Friday reached 13,835, with 1,076 new cases in the past 24 hours. Even after the strict blockade declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has seen a steady increase in the number of cases.
Although the number of cases has increased, an analysis shows that the duplication rate of cases is currently occurring within seven days instead of the previous three day period.
Before closing India’s doubling rate was approximately three days and for the last seven days the doubling rate was 6.2 days. The first bull run in India started on March 25 and ended on April 14. The second running of the bulls started on April 15 and will end on May 3.
On April 10, there was an increase of 896 new cases that brought the total number to 6,761; On April 11, it witnessed an increase of 768 cases with a total number of 7,529; On April 12 there was an increase of 918 cases bringing the total number to 8447; On April 13, it witnessed an increase of 905 cases with a total number of 9,352; On April 14 there was an increase of 1,463 cases bringing the total number to 10,815.
On April 15, cases increased by 1,118 bringing the total number of cases to 11,933; On April 16, an increase of 826 new cases, the total number reached 12,759, and on April 17 with new cases of 1076, the total number reached 13,835.
The Union Ministry of Health also said Friday that the closure in India has reduced the duplication rate of COVID-19 cases. At a press conference, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Health, Lav Agarwal, said that before the closing the rate of duplication of cases was three days and for the last 7 days the rate of duplication has been 6.2 days.
He also added that in 19 states and UT, the doubling rate is less than the national average. The average growth factor of cases has been 1.2 since April 1, while during March 15-31, the average growth factor was 2.1
