India’s confirmed coronavirus case count approaches 40,000, with a record 2,644 new cases detected in the past 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 deaths has increased to 1,301 after 83 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in 24 hours. Recoveries from Covid-19 infection have also crossed 10,600. Authorities in all states will ease some closure restrictions starting tomorrow, including opening more categories of stores and commercial establishments, in areas with limited or no infection.
Maharashtra only reported 12,296 coronavirus cases, while its number of deaths also increased to 521. Gujarat reported 5,054 cases with 262 covid-19 related deaths.
According to an Indian Medical Research Council, India has performed over a million RT-PCR tests for the detection of COVID-19. This test facility is now available at 292 government and 97 private facilities across the country.
The other states that have seen the most cases include Delhi (4,122), Tamil Nadu (2,757), Rajasthan (2,770), Madhya Pradesh (2,846), Uttar Pradesh (2,487), and Telangana (1,063).
