Ahmedabad With 388 people testing positive the night before, 275 in the Ahmedabad district alone, the number of Gujarat coronavirus cases reached 7,013, a senior official said Thursday.
During the same period, 29 patients with COVID-19 died, bringing the state’s death toll from the pandemic to 425, Chief Health Secretary Jayanti Ravi said.
Of the 388 new cases found since Wednesday night, 275 were found in the Ahmedabad district alone.
Other districts where a significant number of cases have been reported are Surat (45), Arvalli (25) and Vadodara (19).
Of the total of 29 people who succumbed to the virus infection since Wednesday night, 23 died in hospitals in Ahmedabad, four in Surat and one in Mehsana and Banaskantha.
In good news, 209 patients recovered and were discharged during this period, bringing the number of such patients to 1,709.
“It is encouraging to see that the recovery rate is increasing. The recovery rate was 7.43 percent 15 days ago. It is now 24.25 percent,” said Ravi.
“Similarly, the case fatality rate is also 5 to 6 percent in Gujarat, which means that almost 95 percent of patients are recovering,” he added.

Of the total of 7,013 cases reported in Gujarat so far, up to 4,991 were reported in the Ahmedabad district alone, followed by 799 in Surat and 440 in Vadodara.
Most deaths were also reported in these three districts.
While 321 patients with COVID-19 have so far died in Ahmedabad, 37 have died in Surat and 31 in Vadodara.
The Gujarat COVID-19 figures are, therefore, the following: positive cases 7,013, new cases 388, deaths 425, patients discharged 1,709, active cases 4,879 and people evaluated to date 1,00,553.
