Passengers who wish to travel on ‘special trains’ that will be operated by the railways from Tuesday must arrive at the stations 90 minutes before departure time, wear masks and preferably bring their own food, as well as bedding and light travel, according to guidelines issued on Monday.

As of 9:30 p.m. Monday, more than 18,000 tickets were reserved, the Railways said.

At 9:15 p.m., nearly three hours after the reservation opened, approximately 30,000 PNRs were generated and the reservation was issued to more than 54,000 passengers, a Railways spokesperson said.

The railways announced plans on Sunday to start 15 pairs of special trains on May 12 and up as part of plans to gradually restart passenger service.

Reservations for these trains from New Delhi to Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi would start at 4 p.m. Monday. However, this had to be pushed for two hours as the “special train data” was not updated on the IRCTC website.

These trains will only have air-conditioned classes, that is, first AC, second AC and third AC and tickets can be booked only through the IRCTC website or the mobile application. Passengers will not be able to book either through the reservation desk or through “agents”.

In addition, the advance booking period for tickets has been maintained for a maximum of seven days and only confirmed electronic tickets will be reserved. Reservation of RAC / Waiting List tickets and on-board reservation by ticket verification staff will not be permitted.

“Current, tatkal and premium tatkal reservations will not be permitted. No unreserved tickets (UTS) will be allowed,” said the railroads. “For the movement of the passenger (s) as well as the driver of the vehicle transporting the passenger (s) to and from the railway station, confirmed electronic ticket will be allowed. ”

The fare structure of “special trains” will be the same as that of Rajdhani trains, excluding meal charges. While the provision for pre-paid food reservation and electronic meal service will be disabled, “dry, ready-to-eat food and bottled water will be provided upon request within trains for a fee … Passengers are encouraged to bring your own food and clean water. ”

Online cancellation of tickets will be allowed only up to 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train with a cancellation fee of 50% of the fare.

Mandatory exam

All passengers, the railroads said, would be mandatorily screened and only asymptomatic passengers could enter and board the trains. They would also have to wear face masks and observe social distancing. No bedding, blankets or curtains will be provided inside the train and passengers have been advised to bring their own bedding.

“The temperature inside the coaches will be properly regulated for this purpose,” the railways said.

Furthermore, the railways have also advised passengers to download and use the government’s Aarogya Setu app. Also, no booths or booths will be opened on the platforms and train side selling will not be permitted. “Passengers are encouraged to travel light.”

Zonal railways have been instructed to ensure that there are separate entry and exit gates at railway stations as far as possible so that there is no face-to-face movement of passengers.
