The Union Health Ministry on Friday delegated teams to Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, which have been reporting an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases in recent days.

A ministry statement said the teams would support the states’ efforts to strengthen containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of positive cases. They will also guide the effective management of challenges related to timely diagnosis and monitoring.

“Each team is made up of a Jt. Secretary (nodal official of the respective State), a public health expert to ensure public health aspects, a clinician to ensure infection prevention practices, a clinical management protocol that the State is following, ” said the Ministry .

Death cases

In the last 24 hours, the country has reported 895 fatal cases, and of these, almost 82% were concentrated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha and Delhi. More than 37% of the new deaths were reported in Maharashtra (337), the ministry noted.

“India continues to report one of the lowest deaths per million people, which is 81 today. Fewer than 1,100 deaths have been reported continuously since October 2. These results are driven by 22 states / UTs that have shown better performance and are reporting even lower deaths per million compared to the national average. The fatality rate has fallen continuously. At the current figure of 1.52%, it is the lowest since March 22, 2020, ” he said.

Active cases now comprise 10.92% of the total positive cases in the country, standing at 8.04.528. “A higher number of recoveries has helped the national recovery rate improve even further to 87.56%,” he added.
