Up to 18 states and Union Territories have recorded recovery rates above the national average, the ministry said.
Active COVID-19 cases in India stayed below the nine lakh mark for the second day in a row and now constitute only 12.65 percent of the total number of cases, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Total COVID-19 recoveries have risen by nearly 60 lakhs (59,88,822) now, further increasing the gap from active cases, it noted.
“There are 8,83,185 active cases of COVID-19 that constitute only 12.65% of the total cases in the country. These are almost 1/8 of the total number of cases in the country, ”the ministry stressed.

“For the second day after active cases fell below the 9 lakh mark after a month, the progressive decline continues,” he said.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate has progressed to 85.81%, it said.
A total of 82,753 patients have recovered and discharged within 24 hours, while 73,272 new infections have been reported during the period, according to data updated at 8 a.m. Saturday.

“This is the result of a collaborative action of the states and UT under the strategy of the Center for comprehensive tests, follow-up, rapid hospitalization and adherence to the standard treatment protocol,” said the ministry.
It is observed that up to 76% of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states and UT: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Delhi, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, said the ministry.

Maharashtra continues to contribute the most with more than 17,000 single-day recoveries.
The ministry said that 79% of the 73,272 recent infections recorded in a 24-hour span come from 10 states and UT: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Odisha.
Maharashtra still reports a very high number of new cases with more than 12,000 infections, followed by Karnataka with almost 11,000 cases.

Additionally, 926 recent deaths have been reported in a 24-hour span. Of these, almost 82% are concentrated in 10 states and UT: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Punjab Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. More than 32 percent of the new deaths reported are from Maharashtra (302 deaths).
India’s number of COVID-19 cases rose to 69,79,423 with 73,272 people testing positive for infection in one day, while the death toll rose to 1,07,416 with 926 people succumbing to the disease in one span. 24-hour data was updated at 8 am showed.
