NEW DELHI: The Health Ministry said Saturday that the Covid-19 count in India had first seen an increase of more than 1,000 cases in 24 hours. However, many of these cases had previously been accounted for in the states’ TOI report summaries, which have indicated an overall increase in the Covid-19 outbreak in the past three days.
Meanwhile, Delhi recorded five deaths from coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day figure in the capital thus far, even as the number of new cases remained high at 166. So far, Delhi has recorded 1,069 cases, the second city after Mumbai to cross the four-digit mark.
Meanwhile, ICMR said it had analyzed 1.79,374 samples for Covid-19 infection from 1.64,773 people in the country as of 9pm Saturday, of which 4.3% were positive.

According to state reports, 825 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the country on Saturday, the second highest after 863 on Friday.
Lav Aggarwal, the ministry’s joint secretary, said 1,035 new cases of Covid-19 and 40 deaths from the disease were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the official number of cases to 7,447 and the number of deaths to 239 across the country. .

Maharashtra continues to report the maximum number of cases, 187 on Saturday, but the situation in Delhi also appears to be deteriorating rapidly.
Among the 166 new cases reported in the capital, 128 were related to the Nizamuddin group caused by the Tablighi Jamaat meetings in March. But to avoid the positive case profile, the government has put its data in a new category called “positive cases – in special operations.”
Delhi has a capacity of 2,406 designated Covid-19 patient beds in all its hospitals. Due to the sudden increase in cases in the state, only 32% of these are vacant, government data shows. “If the trend of strong increase in cases in Delhi continues, we will soon be in a crisis situation. The government will have to designate more hospitals for Covid-19 treatment, ”said a senior doctor.
Maharashtra recorded 17 Covid-19 deaths on Saturday, bringing the state’s toll to 127, by far the highest in the country.
Rajasthan continued to report an increasing number of new cases, which increased from 98 on Friday to a new high of 139. The total Covid-19 case count in the state is now 700.
Tamil Nadu registered 58 new cases in Covid-19, bringing its count to 969, the third highest in the country.
Kerala, which recorded India’s first Covid-19 case on January 30 and remained among the worst affected states for almost two months, continued to show a sharp decline in new cases. On Saturday, the coastal state registered only 10 new infections. “The drop in new cases and the meteoric rise in the number of people recovering are reasons enough to rejoice. But such positive developments should never be reasons for society to indulge, “said Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
Coronavirus cases continued to multiply in Gujarat. The state recorded 90 new cases on Saturday, bringing the total to 243. The state also recorded three more deaths, all men from Ahmedabad, bringing the state’s death toll to 22.
The cases in Gujarat were mainly driven by the peak in the Ahmedabad district.
