The creators of Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starring Coolie No. 1 have released the trailer. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Jaaved Jaaferi, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Sahil Vaid, and Shikha Talsania. Coolie No. 1 turns out to be the 45th directorial outing for David Dhawan, who also directed the original film, starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.

The trailer begins with the introduction of Varun Dhawan’s character as a rich man who owns the largest port in Asia and Burj Khalifa. But we already know that it is a Coolie who tries to deceive a rich man (Paresh Rawal) who has insulted his friend. Next, we are introduced to Sara Ali Khan, dressed in a bikini, who is only seen dancing with Dhawan. Then we finally meet Dhawan’s brother ‘judwaa’, played by Dhawan himself, who is street smart.

In 1995, David Dhawan made the same movie with superstars Govinda, Karisma Kapoor, Kader Khan, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. Back then, Govinda and Kader Khan’s perfect comic timing and Kapoor’s innocent demeanor worked in the film’s favor, making it a huge success. But, after seeing the trailer for the remake, I still wonder why the filmmaker decided to recreate the movie. Also, no one can make Govinda better than Govinda and Varun Dhawan trying to imitate him is a great disappointment.

Although we are familiar with the plot of Coolie No. 1, we hope there is more to the remake than the trailer suggests. While releasing the trailer, Varun Dhawan promised, “45 times more fun, action, romance and dhamaal” in Coolie No.1.

Coolie No 1 has been produced by Pooja Entertainment. Previously, it was considering a theatrical release on May 1, 2020. But, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent closure of theaters, the film will now premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 25, 2020.
