Constable’s wife ‘hangs herself after trying to kill 2 children’

The wife of a Delhi police officer was found hanging inside her home, while her two children were found injured in the bathroom on Thursday night, in Ghitorni, southwest Delhi.

The woman allegedly tried to kill her two children, one three months old and the other three years old, and left them in the bathroom. He later committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan, police said. The children are in treatment at Fortis Hospital and the oldest is critical.

Deputy Police Commissioner (Southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said that two PCR calls were made around 7.55pm in Vasant Kunj about the incident.
“We were informed that Sheriff Sushil, stationed at Vasant Vihar, was unable to open the door of his home. He called the police after no one answered from inside his home. Police personnel from Vasant Kunj and Vasant Vihar arrived at the scene and broke the latch on the door. They found Sushil’s wife, Rajesh, hanging from a fan in her room. Her children were found unconscious inside the bathroom. They were rushed to Fortis. “

The woman was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police sources said the couple had been in arguments lately. “The couple married in 2014 and the family’s statements will be recorded by the subdivisional magistrate. They had a tense relationship but more clarity is required, ”said an officer.

Sushil was in Rajasthan for two days. Police sources said the woman allegedly strangled her children with a cloth in the late afternoon when she was alone with them.

A senior officer said they do not suspect a crime so far, but that a case will be recorded if the woman’s family or the sheriff files a complaint. On Friday, Sushil was called to the local police station for routine questioning.

Rajesh’s family, meanwhile, alleged in a statement to the police and SDM that Sushil was pressuring her for a dowry.
