Congress seeks the president’s intervention to annul the agricultural laws; to present memorandum on December 24 | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress on Tuesday requested the intervention of President Ram Nath Kovind for the withdrawal of the three agricultural laws and said that a memorandum signed by two crore farmers would be delivered to him on December 24 by a party delegation led by Rahul gandhi.
Congress has been supporting farmers’ agitation and seeking the withdrawal of central agricultural legislation. A delegation of opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, had met with the president with the same demand a few days ago.
Secretary General AICC KC Venugopal He said the delegation of congressional leaders led by the former party chief will meet with the president on Thursday.
About 2 million signatures have been collected from farmers across the country, he said, as he sought the president’s intervention to overturn the three pieces of legislation.
“A delegation of deputies and congressional leaders led by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will present an appeal memorandum with these 2 million rupee signatures to the president on December 24, urging his intervention to overturn the three black laws,” Venugopal said in a statement. .
He said that the Congress party had launched a national campaign to compile memorandums of appeals addressed to the President of India signed by farmers, farm workers and other stakeholders who oppose these laws from the initial stage of introducing these bills. in Parliament.
Lakhs of farmers have been protesting in the freezing weather against the three “blatantly anti-agriculture” laws aimed at “trading their interests in the hands of select capitalist friends of the (Narendra) Modi government,” said the AICC secretary general.
Farmers protesting have been prevented from entering the national capital for the past 27 days despite prior notice and peaceful intent, it alleged.
“The three laws against farmers have caused immense pain and anguish among farmers and farm workers across India. Farmers have been calling on the government of India to repeal these laws against farmers and, since the last few days, they are sitting on an indefinite strike, “Venugopal said.
He said 44 farmers have already lost their lives during the ongoing protests.
Congress, along with other political parties, had vehemently opposed the bills inside and outside Parliament. Rahul Gandhi and Congressional leaders conducted an extensive ‘tractor yatra’ in Punjab and Haryana, as well as in different states, Venugopal said.
“The arrogant Modi government, which had initially misled the group of farmers with a conciliatory face, soon made its intransigence evident.
“It has become absolutely clear that the Modi government is only committed to the welfare of large corporations rather than innocent farmers and farm workers,” he said in the statement.
The government has been in overdrive using public money to create false propaganda and narratives in favor of “draconian farmer bills and to discredit protesting farmers,” he alleged.
The congressional leader also accused the government of promoting “fabricated polls” in the media to generate support for these laws.
“From taking the government head-on in Parliament, where it flagrantly and undemocratic suspended opposition parliamentarians and branded us anti-national, the government has chosen to blatantly defame, discredit and ultimately tire the thousands of farmers who They protest. The Modi government and its ministers have chosen to insult them, “Venugopal said.
