Congress removes Ghulam Nabi Azad as Secretary General; forms a 6-member panel to help Sonia Gandhi | India News

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday he announced another set of organizational changes, dropping Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun kharge as general secretaries while promoting spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.
Acting President of Congress Sonia Gandhi She has also formed a special 6-member committee to assist her in organizational and operational matters.
The members of this special committee are AK Antony, Ahmad Patel, Ambika Soni, KC Venugopal, Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Singh Surjewala. Surjewala has also been appointed general secretary in charge of congressional affairs in Karnataka.
Mukul Wasnik, who was one of the signatories to the reform letter, has found a place on the special committee that is otherwise dominated by loyalists.
Other fallen leaders as general secretaries include Motilal Vora, Ambika Soni and Luizinho Falerio.
The party has also reconstituted the Congressional Working Committee and the Central Electoral Authority.
P Chidambaram, Jitendra Singh and Randeep Surjewala have become regular members of the CWC in the organizational reorganization by Sonia Gandhi.
Rajeev Shukla and Pramod Tiwari have also found a place in the CWC, but the surprise entry is Tariq Anwar, who has been appointed secretary general.
The reconstituted CAQ will have 22 leaders, while there will be 26 standing guests and 10 special guests.
The Central Election Authority will now be headed by Madhusudan Mistry, who replaces Wasnik, while Arvinder Singh Lovely, who was one of the signatories, has also found a place in it.
Azad was among 23 leaders who had written a letter to the head of the party, Sonia Gandhi, calling for a complete reform of the organization, a full-time president and elections to the Congressional Working Committee.
Of the ‘group of 23’, Azad and Anand Sharma continue to be regular members of the CWC, while Jitin Prasada has been named a permanent CWC guest for having previously been a special guest.
Prasada has also taken responsibility for the party’s affairs in West Bengal.
