A congressional leader in Uttar Pradesh said on Friday that the party should expel Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is among 23 signatories to a letter calling for a review of the organization.
Twenty-three congressional leaders wrote to party chief Sonia Gandhi seeking active, full-time leadership of the party, among other organizational changes.
“At the CWC meeting, the head of the party, Sonia Gandhi, said she was hurt by her letter, but now the problem was over. Even after that, she spoke to the media and posted on Facebook the next day,” Naseeb Pathan, who was part of the MLC. between 2004 and 2016, she told PTI-Bhasha.
“As he has broken the discipline of the party, he should be made ‘hoe’ and expelled from the party,” he added. Hours earlier, Pathan had posted a video on social media about the matter.
“You know (Azad) got 320 votes in the assembly when he first ran. After that, he went everywhere as a nominee. It is not appropriate to say such things about the party,” he said.

When contacted, the party’s media coordinator, Lalan Kumar, said: “I am aware of this statement but I am not well.” This is not the first time that Pathan has made a statement against Azad.
After the 2017 assembly elections, he had said that Azad, who was in charge of the UP Congress at the time, should take responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the elections and resign.
