Senior Congressional Leader Ahmed Patel, who tested positive for coronavirus on October 1, was admitted to the ICU at Gurgaon Medanta Hospital, his family said Sunday.
A tweet posted by his son, Faisal Patel, said that the veteran’s condition is “stable” and that he “continues under medical observation.”
“On behalf of his family, we would like to share that Shri Ahmed Patel tested positive for Covid19 a few weeks ago. He has now been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon for further treatment. His condition is stable and remains under observation. medical … We ask that you pray for his speedy recovery, “Faisal Patel tweeted.

Concerned congressional leaders, including Anand Sharma and Shashi Tharoor, wished Patel, 71, a speedy recovery.
“Deeply concerned and praying for the good health of my friend and comrade Ahmed Patel. Please join us in praying for his speedy recovery,” Congress leader Anand Sharma tweeted.

Tharoor described Patel as an “extraordinary figure in Indian politics” and wished him well.

Rajasthan’s chief minister, Ashok Gehlot, tweeted saying he was concerned about Patel’s health.

Other Congressional leaders who tested positive for the virus include Abhishek Singhvi, 61, and Tarun Gogoi, 86. Both Mr. Singhvi and Mr. Gogoi have since recovered.
Shortly before Faisal Patel tweeted, Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh also tested positive. Singh, 59, tweeted: “I have tested positive for COVID-19. I request everyone who was in close contact with me recently to isolate themselves and get tested.”
Several senior ministers and union ministers tested positive in recent months, including Interior Minister Amit Shah, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Karnataka counterpart BS Yediyurappa also tested positive.
Several MPs and MLAs had also tested positive.
The new coronavirus, so named because it has never been identified in humans before, has infected more than 88 lakh people in the country since the pandemic began in Wuhan in China in December last year. More than 40,000 new cases were detected this morning and around 42,000 were declared free of infection after treatment, bringing the number of active cases to around 4.79 lakh.
More than 1.29 lakh deaths have been linked to Covid infection in India alone.
