Patel, a freedom fighter who also became the Prime Minister of the Interior of India, is credited with unifying hundreds of princely states into the Union of India after independence through a combination of persuasion, dialogue and even use of force when necessary.

“As a courageous freedom fighter and the nation’s first deputy prime minister, his countless contributions to nation-building inspire countless Indians even today,” the party said.
In a Facebook post in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi shared Patel’s quote that “my only wish is for India to be a good producer and no one in this country should shed tears while hungry.”

In her tribute to Patel, Congress Secretary General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a Hindi tweet: “The British threatened the farmers of Bardoli with things like property embargo, but under the leadership of Sardar Patel, the farmers they didn’t back down and their Satyagraha won. ”

“On the anniversary of Sardar Patel’s death today, it is necessary to tell this government that farmers are not afraid of false propaganda and threats,” he said.
Several other Congressional leaders, including Chief Speaker Randeep Surjewala, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, Abhishek Singhvi and Sachin Pilot, also paid rich tributes to Patel.
