New Delhi:
Congress has signaled that it is not part of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Alliance and accused the Union Interior Minister Amit Shah of “spreading lies”, in a reference to his tweets today. Shah criticized the Popular Alliance, accusing it of getting “foreign forces to intervene” on the Article 370 issue and asked Congress for its position on the issue.
“Congress and the Gupkar Gang want to bring J&K back into the age of terror and unrest. They want to take away the rights of Dalits, women and tribes that we have secured by removing Article 370. That is why they are being rejected by people everywhere, “his tweet read.
“Spreading lies, fraud and creating new illusions has become the way of the Modi government,” Congress leader and spokesman Randeep Surjewala said tonight.
“It is a shame that Interior Minister Amit Shah is neglecting responsibility for national security and making false, misleading and malicious statements about Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh,” he added.
Shah’s flurry of tweets came after the “People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration,” a conglomerate of parties seeking to fight for the restoration of the state’s special status, decided that it would participate in local elections as an alliance.
Both Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah, archrivals who joined the People’s Alliance, claimed that he was reacting to the Alliance’s decision.
“I can understand the frustration behind this attack from the Honorable Minister of the Interior. He was informed that the People’s Alliance was preparing to boycott the elections. This would have allowed the BJP and the newly formed King’s party to run free in J&K. please, “Omar Abdullah tweeted.
“Only at J&K can leaders be arrested and called anti-national for participating in elections and supporting the democratic process,” Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.
