Citing corruption in the Karnataka government led by the BJP after a sting operation by a Kannada TV channel, Congress has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. The Karnataka state unit of the BJP has denied these allegations.
The corruption allegations concern bribery lawsuits allegedly brought by Yediyurappa’s son, son-in-law and grandson in a flat construction project by the city development agency BDA. According to Congress, there are WhatsApp chats that evidence the alleged search for bribes to the contractor and the bribe delivered in cash and through direct transfers in bank accounts.
“Chief Minister Yediyurappa and his family have been caught accepting a bribe in the alleged Rs 666 million BDA construction project scam. We demand a time-limited investigation by a sitting Supreme Court judge or by the President of the Supreme Court of Karnataka … Prime Minister Yediyurappa must resign or be fired by the BJP to ensure impartiality in the investigation, “said former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a series of tweets.
