New Delhi: Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s father, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Indrajit Chakraborty, broke the silence on Saturday about the arrest of his son Showik, saying a middle-class family has been “demolished.”
“Congratulations India. You have arrested my son, I am sure my daughter is next in line. You have effectively demolished a middle class family. Of course, for the sake of justice, everything is justified. Jai Hind “he said in a statement condemning the detention of his 24-year-old son.
Indrajit Chakraborty has also been questioned by the IWC for days in relation to the case.
Showik Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday in connection with an investigation into drug abuse allegations related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
He has been sent into the custody of NCB until September 9 along with the manager of the Rajput house, Samuel Miranda.
Both Showik and Miranda have been registered by the ED and the CBI under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) in the case of the Rajput’s death.
The sections pressed against him are sections 20 (b) dealing with the production, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase and transport of cannabis, 28 (punishment for attempted crimes), 29 (punishment for complicity and criminal conspiracy) and 27 (a) that defines the punishment for financing illicit trafficking and sheltering offenders, said a senior OCN official.
NCB investigates drug angle in SSR death case
Previously, NCB detectives had questioned Showik and Miranda for more than 10 hours after conducting a raid on their residence in Santa Cruz (west) and the suburbs of Andheri (west), respectively.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging from the ceiling of his Bandra apartment in Mumbai on June 14. The Rajput family accused the late actor’s girlfriend, Rhea, of administering prohibited drugs to him without his knowledge.
The NCB began investigating the drug angle in this case after the DE shared with him some evidence about Rhea’s alleged links to the procurement, transportation and use of prohibited drugs.
