Mumbai:

Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s father, Indrajit Chakraborty, issued a statement on Saturday condemning the arrest of his 24-year-old son, Showik Chakraborty, in an investigation into drug abuse allegations surrounding the death of the star. Bollywood Sushant Singh Rajput in June.

“Congratulations India, you have arrested my son, I’m sure my daughter is next in line and I don’t know who will be next. You have effectively demolished a middle class family. But of course, for the sake of the Justice”. everything is justified. Jai hind, ”said the statement from Lieutenant Colonel Indrajit Chakraborty (Retd), who has also been questioned by the CBI for days.

Showik Chakraborty was arrested on Friday by the Bureau of Narcotics Control or NCB along with Samuel Miranda, manager of Sushant Singh’s home, and charged with various sections of the drug law. Both have been sent into the custody of the agency as of Wednesday.

No drugs have yet been found in Showik Chakraborty and the NCB case so far has hinged on the discovery of 59 grams of cured marijuana from two men identified as Abbas Lakhani and Karan Arora and the links they allegedly had with people close to Sushant Singh.

In its request for custody of Mr. Chakraborty, the NCB said it had “given so many names that it was dealing drugs with” and will now face its sister Rhea Chakraborty, who will likely be summoned for questioning on Sunday.

Various angles surrounding the death of 34-year-old Sushant Singh Rajput are being investigated by three federal agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the NCB.

Under the intense gaze of the media for nearly three months that skyrocketed after Sushant Singh’s father accused Rhea Chakraborty of driving him to suicide, the only arrests in the case so far come from the angle of drug possession.

Speaking to NDTV last month, Rhea Chakraborty also spoke about the pressures of being investigated by three separate agencies and defamation by a section of the media. The “witch hunt,” he said, was destroying a “simple, innocent, middle-class family.”

He had previously shared a video on Instagram showing his father, a retired military doctor, being harassed and chased by journalists outside his home in Mumbai. The actor sought protection for herself and her family from the Mumbai police so that the family can cooperate with investigative agencies.
