MUMBAI: The Palghar administration issued on Monday a ‘Congo feveralert after neighboring Gujarat districts reported around four cases of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), it was feared that it would spread from animals to humans.
The district administration has asked cattle feeders, meat vendors and staff from the state department of animal husbandry to be on the lookout for symptoms that can cause Congo fever. The virus is transmitted through the bite of the Hyalomma tick, an external parasite, which lives by feeding on the blood of mammals, birds, etc.
The deputy commissioner of the department of animal husbandry, Dr. Prashant Kamble, in a circular, said that the CCHF has been found in some districts of Gujarat. Since the villages of the Palghar district border Gujarat, an alert has been issued. So far no case of CCHF has been reported in Palghar district.
Those with symptoms such as headache, high fever, joint pains, abdominal pain and nausea, red eyes, nosebleeds, should report to the district administration.
Farmers have been asked to ensure the hygiene of the stables, the use of masks, rubber boots and gloves.
The district is already addressing growing cases of Covid-19 in rural areas. As of Monday, the district had 34,558 cases, of which rural Palghar had 12,279.
