There was a clash on Saturday between Indian and Chinese soldiers along the disputed India-China border in northern Sikkim, resulting in minor injuries on both sides.

According to sources, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and Indian Army soldiers clashed near the Naku La sector, in front of Muguthang, on Saturday when they met face to face. Naku La is a pass in the north of Sikkim at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters above mean sea level.

Sources confirmed that there was a display of aggressive behavior and soldiers on both sides suffered minor injuries. However, the two sides became disconnected after local interaction and dialogue between the two armies.

Sources said the confrontation was “temporary and short-lived” in nature and was not a confrontation. Such incidents occur where there are some unresolved boundary issues, but this was after a long time. As has been the case, both armies solve those problems with each other according to established protocols, the sources added.

The confrontation came three years after a confrontation between India and China, which also crossed the border at Sikkim. The 73-day clash sparked intense tensions between the two nations and their armies, beginning after China built a highway south of Doklam, an area that both China and Bhutan claimed belonged to them.

During the 2017 clash, Indian Army and China People’s Liberation Army troops had participated in clashes and stone-throwing in Ladakh.
