Confident that the Covid-19 vaccine will be ready in 3-4 months, says Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan


Noting that it is natural to prioritize the Covid-19 vaccine distribution process, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday that health workers and people over 65 will receive the coronavirus vaccine as a priority.

Addressing FICCI FLO’s national webinar on ‘The Shifting Paradigm of Healthcare During and After Covid’, Vardhan said that the coronavirus vaccine will be available in a couple of months and estimated to be produced by July-August. between 400 and 500 million doses of vaccine. available for 25-30 crore people.

“I am sure the Covid-19 vaccine will be ready in the next three to four months,” he said.

“It is natural that the distribution of the vaccine should be prioritized. As you know, health workers who are warriors of the crown will be prioritized, then people who are over 65 years old, they have been prioritized and then the from 50 to 65 years old. Those of legal age have been prioritized. Then those under 50 years of age who have other diseases, “he said.

Vardhan said that everything is decided by experts with a scientific point of view.

“We have made a very detailed meticulous plan on this,” he said.

“What we would have to do in March-April next year, we start planning from now on,” Vardhan said.

The minister said: “We have also initiated an integrated response system against Covid-19 and clinical trials will also be conducted for all major vaccines. About 20 vaccines are in different stages of development.”

He said that around 90-99 percent of addressing Covid-19 should only protect and motivate others.

“You can protect yourself from this deadly virus with little precautions like wearing a good quality mask correctly, maintaining social distance, and taking care of hand hygiene,” he noted.

The phase 3 trial of the Serum Institute’s Oxford vaccine is nearing completion, while the phase 3 clinical trial of the locally developed candidate vaccine from Bharat Biotech and the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has already begun.

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories will also soon begin combined phase 2 and 3 clinical trials of the Russian Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, in India.
