Three of the Indian Premier League’s biggest stars, Suresh Raina, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh, withdrew from the 2020 IPL in a matter of seven days. The fact that the three have chosen not to participate in the thirteenth edition of the IPL not because of injuries but for “personal reasons” threw question marks in the league to be held in the United Arab Emirates in the middle of a global pandemic. . BCCI, however, relies on the biosecure environment and its protocols to run the tournament smoothly.
IPL 2020 is scheduled to begin on September 19. Fifteen days before the tournament starts, here’s a look at the full list of cricketers who withdrew from the tournament and their replacements.

Harbhajan Singh
The senior off-spinner decided to withdraw from IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. He reported to CSK team management on Friday, who supported the spinner’s decision.
“I will not play IPL this year for personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy while spending time with my family. CSK management has been very supportive and I wish you an excellent IPL. Stay safe and Jai Hind, ”Harbhajan tweeted.
Harbhajan said he was indebted to the CSK leadership for understanding its priorities.
“When I told CSK management about my decision, they were very supportive and I can’t thank them enough for that,” Harbhajan said.
CSK has yet to announce a replacement for the third highest wicket bearer in the IPL.
Lasith malinga
IPL’s biggest land grabber Lasith Malinga decided to miss IPL 2020 to spend time with his family in Sri Lanka. Malinga’s father is reportedly unwell and it is believed that the fast bowler did not want to leave his side and travel to the United Arab Emirates for the IPL.

“Lasith is a legend and a pillar of MI’s strength,” Mumbai owner Akash Ambani said, according to the franchise’s website. “There is no denying the fact that we will miss Lasith’s acumen for cricket this season. However, we fully understand Lasith’s need to be in Sri Lanka with his family during this time. “
Lasith Malinga was replaced by Australian pacemaker James Pattinson on the Mumbai Indians team.
Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina, the second best IPL rider, was the first big name to withdraw from this year’s IPL when he informed CSK management of his decision last week. Raina also cited personal reasons for opting out of the tournament. Among all the cricketers who withdrew from IPL 2020, Raina was the only one who had traveled with his respective squad to the United Arab Emirates.
The southpaw, who has represented CSK in the 10 seasons the franchise has been part of the IPL, has not ruled out the chances of returning to the UAE for the second half of the league.
CSK is unlikely to name a replacement for its top run scorer.
Jason roy
Jason Roy, who suffered lateral strain in the series against Pakistan, decided to exclude himself from the 2020 IPL to give himself enough time to recover from injury. DC, therefore, replaced Roy with Australian sailor Daniel Sams. The left arm was the best player in the Big Bash League (BBL) last year.
Speaking of being a part of the franchise, Sams said that he feels lucky to have the opportunity to play IPL this year. “The IPL is a huge platform for any cricketer, and at home, we all follow the tournament very closely every year,” he said.
Chris wake up
England all-rounder Chris Woakes opted out of the 2020 IPL, opening the doors for South African pacemaker Anrich Nortje to join the Delhi Capitals team.
Nortje was part of the Knight Riders team at the last IPL but did not get a game due to injury. She will team up with Kagiso Rabada and Ishant Sharma to form a formidable lineup in Delhi.
Kane richardson
Kane Richardson from Australia decided to withdraw from IPL 2020 for the birth of his son.
“We are disappointed not to have Kane’s skills with us at this IPL as he is certainly at the top of his game,” said Mike Hesson, Royal Challengers team principal. “However, once we found out that Kane and Nyki’s baby was going to be born during IPL, it’s an exciting time and we fully support Kane who wants to be at the birth of the first child.
Richardson was replaced in the RCB squad by Australian player Adam Zampa. “When we looked at our team for UAE conditions, we felt it was an opportunity to bring in another quality leg player in Adam Zampa to provide cover for Chahal and also give us additional options if conditions suit for purpose as expected. during the tournament, “Hesson said.
Harry gurney
The English seamer on the left arm was ruled out for the 2020 IPL due to a shoulder injury. Gurney, who was drafted into the KKR squad in the last IPL as a replacement, was retained earlier this season. KKR, however, has a good attacking pace with players like Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti in their ranks. The franchise has yet to announce a replacement for Gurney.
