New Delhi: A new leak has exposed the massive infiltration of members of the Chinese Communist Party into some of the world’s largest companies, consulates and government agencies.

According to a report by The Mail, CCP members are working in British consulates and universities and for some of the major UK companies.

The leaked database of 1.95 million registered party members indicates how Beijing’s influence has reached every corner of Britain, including major defense companies, banks and pharmaceutical giants.

The leak took place in April 2016 when the data was pulled from a Shanghai server by Chinese dissidents and whistleblowers.

The data was later leaked to the newly formed Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, a group made up of 150 lawmakers from around the world, in September this year. It was also shared with four media organizations, The Australian, The Sunday Mail in the UK, De Standaard in Belgium and a Swedish publisher, Sky News reported.

Another shocking revelation from the leak is that many CCP members have reportedly landed jobs at British consulates.

Data analysis also revealed that more than 600 party members worked at 19 branches of British banks such as HSBC and Standard Chartered in 2016.

Similarly, pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca, currently involved in the development of coronavirus vaccines, had employed 123 CCP loyalists.

Recently, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized China for stealing research and intellectual property from Chinese students studying at American universities.

Addressing academics at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Pompeo called the Communist Party of China the “central threat of our time.”

Pompeo’s statement comes after US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross accused China of failing to abide by international trade rules and called Beijing the top military and economic threat in the Asian region.
