NEW DELHI: In another meeting with Pakistan on an international platform on cashmere On the issue and alleged violation of minority rights, India said on Wednesday that the only remaining dispute in what Islamabad called a “disputed territory” was its own illegal occupation of “certain parts, which sooner or later, would have to vacate. ”
At the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers meeting, India also reminded the international community that Pakistan was the same country that had the dubious distinction of becoming synonymous with the phrase “epicenter of terrorism” and hosting the largest number of terrorists banned by the United Nations.
India’s reaction was in response to the Pakistani Foreign Minister’s comments. Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the meeting claiming that India was targeting its religious minorities.
“It was regrettable that one of our South Asian member states misused today’s Commonwealth meeting to pursue its own bigoted, ill-conceived, narrow and one-sided agenda on a multilateral platform,” said MEA (West) Secretary , Vikas Swarup, in response to the allegations in the virtual meeting. Swarup represented India at the meeting.
“When we hear them rant about a South Asian state, we are left wondering why it was describing itself. And it is not surprising that it came from a world-renowned promoter of state-sponsored terrorism disguised as an alleged victim of it. We hear of a country that brought genocide to South Asia 49 years ago when it killed its own people, “he added.
The official also said that for a country like Pakistan to hypocritically preach on minority religious groups elsewhere, while trampling on the rights of its own indigenous minorities itself, was “indeed very regrettable and a flagrant misuse of this august platform.”
Pakistan’s minister had previously said that while the world remained concerned about the pandemic, a state in South Asia was targeting its religious minority groups to foment division and hatred between community groups. “It has transgressed the rights and freedoms of millions and fueled hyper-nationalism to engineer illegal demographic change in a disputed territory and has sown racial tensions. We ignore its transgressions only at our own risk,” he said.
