New Delhi:

Mamata Banerjee criticized the center today for ordering three senior officers to leave Bengal, calling it a blatant attempt to control their state by proxy. In tweets, the called West Bengal chief minister said that the move of the center, ahead of elections to be held next year, went against the principles of a federal structure.

The three officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) were asked to report to the central delegation one day after an attack on the convoy of BJP President JP Nadda near Kolkata last week.

After Bengal refused to send them, the Union Ministry of the Interior sent another letter today asking the Mamata Banerjee government to relieve the three officers as soon as possible.

“The central delegation government order for the three serving IPS officers from West Bengal despite the objection of the state is a colorful exercise of power and a flagrant abuse of the emergency provision of IPS Cadre Rule 1954,” tweeted the Chief Minister.

“This act is nothing more than a deliberate attempt to invade the jurisdiction of the state and demoralize the officers in service in West Bengal. This move, particularly before the elections, goes against the basic principles of the federal structure. It is unconstitutional and completely unacceptable, “he wrote.

“We would not allow this blatant attempt by the center to control the state machinery by proxy! West Bengal will not cower in the face of expansionist and anti-democratic forces,” criticized the Chief Minister.
