Punjab CM Amarinder Singh reacted on Saturday to Sukhbir Singh Badal’s statement against him as “total buffoonery”, saying that he was “not a coward or a traitor like Badals.”
“The Badal, who were totally cornered for their betrayal of the farmers, had clearly pressed all the panic buttons in their desperation to cover up their blatant betrayal,” Amarinder Singh said in reaction to Sukhbir Badal’s remarks, according to NDTV.
Shiromani Akali Dal boss Sukhbir Singh Badal harshly criticized CM Amarinder Singh of Punjab for his recent meeting with Union Interior Minister Amit Shah and accused him of “reciting the BJP script” for allegedly linking the agitation of farmers with national security. Badal had alleged that Amarinder had “surrendered” to the BJP after he was summoned to Delhi to be told to “choose between standing up to the Directorate of Enforcement and betraying the farmers.”
The Chief Minister responded to the allegation that there were no new ED cases against him, that “should I suddenly start shaking?” “Such is his level of desperation that Sukhbir even stooped to undermine the Pakistani threat to the security of Punjab and the nation,” Amarinder Singh was quoted as saying.
On Thursday, Amarinder Singh had appealed to the Union Minister of the Interior and protesting farmers to find an early solution to the stalemate over new farm laws, saying the unrest was affecting Punjab’s economy and the nation’s security. . But Badal argued that Amarinder Singh’s “cowardly surrender” to the DE and Amit Shah may surprise those who take his “vain bragging and boasting” seriously. “Everyone in Delhi knows what happened at that strange meeting held behind the farmers’ backs,” said the SAD chief.
The Punjab CM responded by questioning Sukhbir if they had gone blind to the threats from Pakistan. Have you and your Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) become so power-hungry that you have even closed your eyes to the threat that Pakistanis pose to our security? Are you saying that all those weapons, ammunition and drones that our brave security forces have captured along the Punjab border are no danger? He asked, adding that it seemed like Sukhbir Singh Badal had ‘lost’ him completely.
