Civilians killed in police shootings as protests erupt in Riyaz Naikoo village

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police secretly buried the body of Riyaz Naikoo, the commander of Hizb-ul Mujahideen, who was killed in a shooting with security forces in his village of Baigpora in the Pulwama district, in an undisclosed location. on Wednesday.

The man killed in today’s police action was a civilian, identified as Jehangir Yusuf Wani, a resident of the village of Uthmula in the Pulwama district. Hospital sources said Wani, 32, was taken dead with gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen and leg. Sources said the injuries to the others brought to the hospital were mainly to the lower extremities.

Authorities described the clashes as “minor”, “insignificant” and restricted to Pulwama and a few other pockets in the Valley. Anyway, they closed the mobile internet services in Kashmir. Telephone services were also reduced, except for those provided by state-owned BSNL.
