Unlock5: Cinemas allowed with 50% seats, states will decide on schools

Unlock5: The Center has allowed the opening of cinemas with up to 50 percent of its seating capacity

New Delhi:

Schools and universities, closed since March when the closure was announced across the country, will be able to reopen as of October 15, the Center said today when announcing the next phase of lifting restrictions related to the coronavirus. However, the final call has been left in the hands of the states and the institutions involved. However, online and distance learning will remain the preferred mode of teaching and will be encouraged, the Center said.

The government also gave the green light to movie theaters, multiplex cinemas, exhibition halls and entertainment parks, but their reopening will be mitigated with certain restrictions.

Cinemas, theaters and multiplex cinemas will have to operate “with up to 50 percent seating capacity,” for which separate guidelines will be issued, said the government, which until now has kept these venues closed due to concerns about crowds.

However, the lockdown will be strictly enforced in the containment zones until October 31, the government said.

Children under the age of 10 are part of the vulnerable population, the Center said the decision to reopen schools should be made in consultation with schools.
