Weeks before the assembly elections in Bihar, LJP chief Chirag Paswan gave the BJP an ultimatum on the allocation of seats in the NDA coalition.
Chirag Paswan reportedly met with BJP president JP Nadda on Monday and demanded a decision on the seat allocation soon, according to an NDTV report.
The LJP has also made it clear that if it does not happen, the party will present candidates in 143 of the 243 seats in Bihar.
Chirag Paswan, who has a bitter relationship with CM Nitish Kumar, said he will not hesitate to run candidates against Janata Dal United JD (U), sources say.
Paswan also reminded the BJP that the JD (U) had previously said that it has no alliance with the BJP. “So LJP can run candidates against JD (U) candidates,” Paswan said, according to sources.
Earlier, Chirag Paswan asked members of the party’s parliamentary board to prepare a list of 143 candidates and begin campaigning in their respective constituencies. The decision has earned the recognition of the members of the New Delhi parliamentary board. The LJP chief’s mood shows that he is unwilling to compromise on sharing a seat with the JD (U).
“There has been no final decision on the dynamics of the allocation of seats and no decision on who will compete from which constituency. We will let you know the details when we reach that decision,” the ANI quoted Chirag Paswan as saying.
LJP leaders were against participating in the elections under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, as they were upset by his mishandling of the Covid-19 situation, the floods, the migration crisis, and the employment problems in the state. Regarding JD (U), party members say the dispute with LJP is over sharing seats before the elections.
However, Prime Minister Modi gave his stamp of approval to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar as the face of the NDA, saying that Kumar had a “very important role” to play in moving Bihar forward on the path of progress.
The Bihar assembly elections will take place in three phases: the first phase will be held on October 28, the second phase will be on November 3, and the third phase will be on November 7. The vote count will be on November 10.
