A senior official said on Tuesday that Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh would not hold a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wei Feng on the occasion of the grand parade in Moscow.

Singh is currently on a three-day visit to Moscow to participate in a grand military parade on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Germany in World War II. Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe are also expected to participate in the parade.

State runner Global Times It was claimed on Tuesday that Vee could meet his Indian counterpart on Wednesday.

“Chinese Defense Minister Wei Feng will participate in Russia’s Victory Day parade in Moscow on Wednesday and possibly hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh,” the publication quoted sources as saying.

However, Singh’s office in Delhi rejected the claims, saying no such meeting was scheduled for Wednesday.

When asked about the Chinese media report, Defense Ministry spokesman Bharat Bhushan Babu said, “Our Defense Minister will not meet the Chinese Defense Minister.”

The development came as an attempt by India and China to ease tensions along the Line of Actual Control after the bloody conflict last week, in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in the eastern Ladakh’s Galvan Valley.

Singh’s visit comes amid growing border deadlock with China. Officials said that Singh went ahead with the yatra due to India’s decades-old military ties with Russia. Russia is one of the major suppliers of arms and ammunition.

A 75-member Indian Army contingent has already reached Moscow to participate in the parade. The Indian team will participate with personnel from the armed forces of at least 11 countries, including China.

The Ministry of Defense had earlier said, “The visit of the Minister of Defense will strengthen the long-standing special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.” “Indian participation in the Victory Day parade will mark a tribute to the great sacrifices made by Russia and other countries in World War II, in which Indian soldiers also participated and made supreme sacrifices.”

Russia prohibits interference

Russia on Tuesday denied mediation between India and China, saying the two countries did not require any form of assistance to settle their disputes.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remarks came after a virtual conference of foreign ministers of Russia, India and China. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also attended the conference.

“I don’t think India and China need any kind of assistance, any kind of assistance specifically aimed at helping resolve disputes,” Lavrov said.

Sputnik News quoted Lavrov as saying, “As soon as border incidents occurred, the meetings established ground and foreign ministers between the ground and foreign ministers.”

“As I understand these contacts continue, neither party has made any statement indicating a lack of willingness to negotiate on the basis of generally accepted viewpoints. We naturally expect this Continue the way. ”

India and China have denied any role for other parties in finding a peaceful solution to their border issue. Russia has maintained close ties with both China and India.

This is the first visit abroad by a senior Union minister in four months as foreign travel was prohibited in view of the coronovirus epidemic. Officials said Singh traveled by an Indian Air Force aircraft, and followed all precautions against coronovirus infection.
