Chinese delivery man steals 14 units of iPhone 12 Pro Max worth Rs 20 Lakh, arrested

A delivery executive in China stole 14 units of iPhone 12 Pro Max. The price of these phones is estimated at 180,000 CNY, about 20 lakh rupees.

The person named Tang received the job to deliver the iPhone 12 Pro Max from a company called Meituan-Dianping. The iPhone units had to be delivered to an authorized Apple dealer, MyDrivers reported according to India Today.

The incident occurred in the Chinese city of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province. When Tang received these iPhones, he canceled the delivery and paid CNY 10 as a penalty. But what alarmed the store owners was the fact that instead of bringing these smartphones, the delivery partner disappeared.

It was untraceable after scamming the company. The thief started recklessly shopping and sold some of the iPhones to buy expensive clothes. He gave one of the phones to his friend as a loan repayment. Tang even rented a BMW for 600 CNY a day and was living the life of his dreams.

However, the police arrested him a few days later. They recovered around eight of Tang’s stolen phones, which were worth around CNY 10,000 each.

He is now in police custody and would be tried by the legal system for stealing the item. Tang has been blacklisted by the Apple store.

This is not the first time someone has stolen iPhones. The report says that five Amazon employees in Spain also tried to steal iPhones worth 3.71 million rupees from inventory, but were caught.

A similar incident was reported a few days ago in Delhi, India. A man working for an e-commerce platform has been arrested for allegedly misleading a customer by falsely telling him that his order has been canceled and promising him a refund.

An investigation was launched after a customer received a complaint at the KM Pur police station in South Delhi on October 19, police said.

In his police report, the author alleged that a delivery man working for Amazon had arrived at his home in Kidwai Nagar in South Delhi on 1 October to deliver a mobile phone that he had ordered from Amazon. But the delivery man informed him that his order had been canceled and that he would receive a refund soon, a senior police officer said.
