The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), under the command of Commander-in-Chief Xi Jinping, defines its border of Tibet with Ladakh by a green line that passes through the relief of finger 4 on the north bank of Pangong Tso and almost claims the entire Chushul Valley on the southern shores of the salt water body. This line was defined by the Chinese on the map in 1960 and since then it is the ambition of every ‘forbidden city’ ruler to achieve that goal.
However, due to the preference of the Indian Army on August 29, 30 and 31, the PLA’s goal of unilaterally changing the facts on the ground could not be achieved and thus the irritation of the Chinese government against the India.
As the leaders of Communist China spoke of peace and tranquility with their military and diplomatic counterparts, the PLA strengthened militarily to reach the green claim line on the southern shores of Pangong Tso on the night of August 29-30.

“If the Indian specialized troops had not gotten ahead of the Chinese by occupying all the dominant heights on the southern banks and Chushul, the PLA would have taken control of the Valley. The only Chinese approach is to get to the green line and the Indian approach is not to allow them but to reach the patrol limits defined by the government, “said a senior official.
The fact is, the PLA is heavily deployed in its part of the LAC with heavy guns, tanks, and surface-to-air missiles in an attempt to intimidate and subdue the Indian army. However, with the Indian Army undertaking the readjustment of its forces at finger four and south of Pangong Tso, the PLA will have to think twice before making the next military move.
According to authoritative sources, there is evidence of an increase in the PLA’s strength on the Chinese border with Bhutan, as China would like to emphasize its military might in the little kingdom of happiness. However, as in Doklam in 2017, the Indian Army will engage the PLA in this area in support of its closest ally.
