China sends high-level team to Nepal to avoid ruling party split

In a sign of growing unrest in Beijing over the Political crisis in Nepal, China sends a high-level delegation of the chinese communist party to Kathmandu on Sunday to persuade the two warring factions of the Communist Party of Nepal to stay together.
Nepalese media reported that a delegation under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Guo Yezhuo I would be in Kathmandu to speak to all the political factions and leaders of the ruling Nepal party to help them bridge their differences.
China’s move comes later Chinese ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi spent an hour with the Nepalese president Bidya bhandari trying to unravel the political mess precipitated by Prime Minister KP Oli’s move to dissolve parliament.
China’s move shows not only its desperation, but it may risk being seen as openly interfering in Nepalese politics. Beijing has been emboldened by the proposals made by Oli himself. This is despite Oli’s informed statement last month calling on foreign countries to stay away from Nepal’s policy, which was seen as directed at China, particularly its ambassador, who has been openly engaging in the policy of Nepal. Reports from Kathmandu say the Chinese are offering large amounts of money to Nepalese politicians to fix.
India is following developments closely and with some apprehension. New Delhi has been on the sidelines during the current political crisis, but is surprised by China’s open involvement in Nepalese politics. “We will see how the process unfolds, but it is an internal matter,” said an official.
