China ramps up movement as divisions develop in the Communist Party of Nepal

With a widening gap within the Communist Party of Nepal, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday night and held talks for about two hours.

Sources inside the Prime Minister’s residence and the Secretariat confirmed that Ambassador Yanqi met with Oli on Tuesday night and held a discussion for about two hours.

“The Chinese ambassador was here last night and had a conversation with Prime Minister Oli for almost two hours,” an official from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat confirmed to ANI on condition of anonymity.

Another source within Baluwatar confirmed that Yanqi and Oli held a discussion about the ruling party’s unification process and ongoing problem solving within the party.

“They had a discussion on party affairs to keep the party intact and the government in shape. Ambassador Yanqi stressed that we must continue negotiating to settle the disputes and reach a consensus, ”another source within Baluwatar, known to the talks about the meeting, confirmed to ANI.

Dissatisfaction within the ruling Communist Party of Nepal has once again risen with two chairs divided over the broadcast of the party’s Secretariat meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Oli has sent a proposal to co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal to postpone the meeting, while Dahal has been adamant about holding the meeting later in the afternoon.

From the nine-member Secretariat of the ruling CPN, five members, namely Dahal, Madhav Nepal, Jhal Nath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, are pushing for the meeting.

Meanwhile, Bishnu Poudel, Ishwar Pokhrel and Ram Bahadur Thapa along with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli are at odds to postpone the meeting. To avoid the meeting scheduled for 1 pm (local time), Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a cabinet meeting to skip the meeting of the secretariat.

“I have been informed to arrive at PM’s residence before 1 pm this afternoon to attend the cabinet meeting. As the meeting could not be called on Monday due to Tihar, it has been called for today, ”reported a cabinet minister led by Oli requesting not to be identified in the first place.

Oli had tried to cancel the Wednesday Secretariat meeting for which he had sent Bishnu Poudel to convince Dahal to withdraw his political document.

In the previous round of the Secretariat meeting, Dahal had presented a document in which he described Oli’s activities as “inexcusable” and again demanded his resignation from both positions as inappropriate for the position.

Alleging that Oli has presented his promises and the agreement previously signed and negotiated with Dahal has further signaled to Oli that he was unable to cope with the pandemic, leaving everyone in despair and agony.

The 19-page document presented by Dahal has ordered Oli to make the sacrifice for the constitution, the party and the nation by failing to keep his words by disobeying party decisions, the electoral manifesto and ignoring good governance.

With Oli making efforts to postpone the Secretariat meeting, Dahal had met with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday to resolve the issue.
