Kanpur:

Kanpur’s postal department ordered an investigation after the city’s main post office issued stamps featuring the underworld Don Chhota Rajan and the gangster Munna Bajrangi, authorities said today.

Twelve stamps from Chhota Rajan and Munna Bajrangi were printed under the ‘My Stamp’ scheme, which was released by the department a few years ago, an official added.

Post Director General VK Varma said: “A probe has been launched.”

An investigation was ordered after the Kanpur Post Office issued stamps from the gangsters Chhota Rajan and Munna Bajrangi.

The request for these stamps with a face value of 5 rupees has been found to have been made anonymously by a person who paid 600 rupees for them, he added.

Without asking for identification documents, which is essential, the person manning the ‘My Stamp’ desk released 12 stamps each with the photos, Varma said.

Rajneesh Kumar, head of the philately department, who was found prima facie guilty, has been suspended, he said.

“We have also issued show of cause notices to some other employees in this regard,” said the postmaster general. “Efforts are focused on the person who got the photographs of the criminals printed under the ‘My stamp’ scheme,” he added.

It has been decided to take strict measures in the future to ensure that such mistakes are not repeated, Varma said.

Under the ‘My Stamp’ scheme, anyone who pays Rs 300 can get stamps with their photos or those of their relatives printed and published.

Chhota Rajan is currently in a Mumbai prison, and Munna Bajrangi was killed in UP prison in Baghpat in 2018.
