The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases worldwide rose to 53,164,803 when the World Health Organization reported adding more than 657,300 cases in one day. It’s the largest single-day spike in Covid infection since the pandemic began last year.
Most of the new cases were reported in the United States and Europe.
While the death toll worldwide has reached 1,300,576, 9,797 deaths were recorded during the last day.

In the United States, as the virus continues to wreak havoc, the government has teamed up to toughen rules to stop the infection. In New York, the positive test rate remained below the threshold for public school closings, with New Jersey reporting the most daily infections so far on Saturday. Elon Musk said that he “most likely” has a moderate case of Covid-19.
Europe continues to clamp down, from a second shutdown in Austria to a shutdown order from the mayor of Istanbul, a city of some 15 million people. South Korea’s daily case count reached a 2-month high.
Meanwhile, in India, the downward trend in Covid infection continued, as the number of daily cases remained below 50,000.

Chhattisgarh registers 530 new cases of Covid-19
With 530 new Covid-19 cases and 16 deaths, Chhattisgarh’s total count rose to 2,10,534 and the death toll to 2,578 on Sunday, a health official said, PTI reports.

The Surat district reported 187 new positive coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing its count to 38,659, Gujarat’s health department said, PTI reports.
Italy registers 33,979 new cases of Covid-19
Italy has recorded 33,979 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Sunday, down from 37,255 on Saturday, Reuters reports.

Andhra Pradesh reported 1,056 new coronavirus infections, bringing the state’s number of cases to 8,54,011. The number of active cases in the state is currently 18,659, while the death toll is 6,868 according to the Health Department.

Rajasthan reports 2,184 new Covid cases, 10 deaths
Rajasthan’s coronavirus case burden rose to 2,25,817 after the state reported 2,184 new infections. The death toll is currently 2,066 after 10 new deaths. Active cases in the state currently stand at 18,337.

The interior minister reiterated that security was the best course of action against the virus. He urged a strong dialogue in Delhi to raise awareness about the virus and its negative impact on long-term health and medical standards.
Central Government Will Provide Oxygen Cylinders And Other Medical Equipment To Delhi: Amit Shah
The Union Minister of the Interior said that the Center will provide essential health equipment such as oxygen cylinders, high-flow nasal cannula and others to the national capital.

Shah said he has also given instructions to prepare plasma protocols for those severely affected by the virus. A high-level committee headed by Dr. VK Paul, Director AIIMS and Director General ICMR would report on this.
