In one of the deadliest Maoist attacks this year, at least five Jawans were martyred, another 32 wounded in the Maoists ambush at the Hidma stronghold in the restless Bijapur district on Saturday.
Search and combing operations were initiated to track down the missing jaws.
A senior officer told TOI, “32 security personnel are injured, including 15 CoBRA jawans, while one jawan is missing.”
Seven wounded jaws were taken to a hospital in Raipur, while 23 were taken to Bijapur hospital.
State Interior Minister Tamradwaj Sahu said that more than 2,000 security personnel had conducted operations against the Naxalites in the Maoist stronghold in the forests of Bijapur and Sukma districts on April 2 when they were attacked on April 3 at noon in the Tarrem region.
A meeting broke out between the Maoists and the security forces that lasted for more than five hours, he said.
Joint teams from CRPF, CoBRA, DRG and STF were part of the operation and CoBRA personnel appear to have suffered a great loss of life and a large number of injuries.
Bastar Range Police Inspector General P Sundarraj said the Maoists had also suffered significant losses and claimed that more than nine were killed and 15 cadres were injured, although no evidence was found yet.

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah also tweeted: “I bow to the sacrifices of our brave security personnel martyred while fighting the Maoists in Chhattisgarh. The nation will never forget their courage. My condolences go out to their families. We will continue. our fight against these enemies of peace and progress. May the wounded recover soon. ”
CRPF CEO Kuldeep Singh arrived in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning to take stock of the situation.
Union Interior Minister Amt Shah called Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and discussed the situation on the ground in Bijapur.

Baghel expressed his deep grief over the loss of jaws and said that the morale of the security personnel in Bastar is high and that we will win the fight against the Naxalites.
Shah secured all possible support and assistance from the Center in dealing with the Maoist threat in Chhattisgarh.
He added that CRPF DG had been asked to visit the scene of the incident.
