Raipur, May 9

Former Chhattisgarh prime minister Ajit Jogi, 74, was admitted to a private hospital here on Saturday after suffering cardiac arrest, doctors said, adding that his condition is critical.

Citing information provided by members of Ajit Jogi’s family, the hospital said he fell unconscious at his residence here in the morning.

Ajit Jogi’s son Amit Jogi told PTI of Bilaspur that his father’s health suddenly deteriorated while eating breakfast.

According to a health bulletin published by Shree Narayana Hospital, a high-level intensivist gave Ajit Jogi cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at his residence before he was transferred to the hospital.

Jogi suffered cardiac arrest alone at home. As of now, his ECG and pulse have returned to normal, meaning that his heartbeat is returning to normal function. But his breathing is still not normal. He is in a fan and his condition is critical, “he said.

Ajit Jogi’s wife, MLA, Renu Jogi, is with him in the hospital.

Prime Minister Bhupesh Baghel spoke to Amit Jogi by phone to take stock of his father’s health and assured that the state government will take all possible measures to guarantee his best treatment, an official statement said.

Ajit Jogi, a politician-turned-bureaucrat, served as Chhattisgarh’s prime minister-in-chief from November 2000 to November 2003 in Congress, after the formation of the state.

Ajit Jogi parted ways with Congress in 2016 after he and Amit Jogi became embroiled in a controversy over the alleged partial election fixation (2014) for the Antagarh seat in the Kanker district.

Subsequently, he formed his own Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) team.

He is an MLA holder of Marwahi’s seat. – PTI
